The device allow to test very POPULAR general opto-transitors, opto-tiacs, IGBT / MOSFET opto-drivers. Quickly & safely. On board double square wave PWM generator  for testing with regulated frequency. Signal from the tester is modulated with two build in generators inside the optocopler IC. Low frequency generator allows to test optocouplers visually, using LEDs blinking (switch SW2 ON).  Opto-coupler is an electronic component that transfers electrical signals between two isolated circuits. Optocoupler also called Opto-isolator, photo coupler or optical isolator.

Very often, the optocoupler chips can fail. Any one block of the optocoupler will be damaged or a fatal damage will occur to the chip by electricity (the chip burned out without external signs of damage). How to check the health of such optocoupler ? Why is the optocoupler not working - can it burn out? This task is solved by the PWM-TESTOPTO1 device. In addition, the device allows you to detect defective and fake new chips. For a fake microcircuit a separate unit may not work, or, for example, generation is not stable.
Therefore, we recommend that you check even the new optocoplers  for the healths & performance. Even original semiconductor integrated circuits can be damaged by static voltage during transportation. The PWM-TESTOPTO1 allows you to check the chip simply, quickly and with visual control. Even without an oscilloscope. With an oscilloscope, you can check the quality and performance parameters. But usually visual inspection with LEDs is enough.



Testing SMD versions of optocouplers

Supported Optocouplers and it analogues can be produced in SMD packages: 4-Lead SOP, 6-Lead SOP,  8-Lead SOP. Adapter for SMD testing is not included in standard KIT, but you can buy SMD adapters separately, if you plan to test chips not only in DIP package. PWM company can offer IC SMD adapters for SOP8⇒DIP8. Also, there are less common types of housings of optocouplers, the description of which is not included in the list of the mentioned chip housings. No adapters available for SOP4⇒DIP4, SOP6⇒DIP6 packages currently, but you can use adapter SOP14⇒DIP14 for whole ZIP socket of the tester  This allows you to test SOP4, SOP6 SMD optocoplers.

Optocouplers tester available in TWO versions:

    1. The DIY version of the device for self-assembling. This version comes in the form of parts and a set of electronic components for assembling the device. It is necessary to solder the electronic components on the printed circuit board, twist and assemble the details of the device.
    2. The READY version of the device assembled by PWM company and is ready for use

This list can be extended in the future. This testing tool allows to test IC in DIP8 package, but using IC package adapter may test SMD chips as well. SMD adapter not include in standard equipment.
  

The testing tool provide testing of the main features of OPTOCOUPLERS chips:

    1. Low & high frequency output with visual output with LEDs blinking
    2. Frequency regulation.
    3. Visual control of OPTO-ISOLATOR working via LEDs on the board         

The testing board provide 4A PWM voltage regulator 4.5-30V with digital voltmeter on the board:

    1. Voltage converter used for testing IGBT / MOSFET optical-drivers.
    2. Voltage converter can be used for DIY.

Powering of the device

The AC-DC power adapter is not included. For the powering of the device you can use any DC adapter or any DC power source 10V-20V and with minimum 0.3A output current. The connector type: male DC Power Jack 5.5x2.1mm (DC-005 Jack). Do not exceed 22V input voltage. Power the device from current limited 8A MAXIMUM source & protected from mains for the safety reason.

Tested chip's description Tested components are called optocouplers or optoisolators or simply optos, and they perform the crucial function of passing signals between isolated sections of circuitry. They use light to pass signals between circuits. This device allows you to transmit an electrical signal between two isolated circuits with two parts: an LED that emits infrared light and a photosensitive device which detects light from the LED. Both of these parts are contained within a traditional black box with a pair of pins for connectivity. At a glance, it’s easy to mix up an Optocoupler with an integrated circuit (IC). This device basically works like a switch, connecting two isolated circuits on your PCB. When current stops flowing through the LED, the photosensitive device also stops conducting and turns off.
